Mission

The American Society of Breast Surgeons Foundation is a charitable organization founded in 2005 dedicated to improving the standard of care for breast disease patients by providing support for medical and patient education, advancing breast disease research, diagnosis and treatment technologies, and offering programs and services to medical professionals and their patients.

Initiatives

Cooperative efforts by private industry and members of The American Society of Breast Surgeons to develop and implement new technology have resulted in improvements in the care of breast disease patients in the United States.

The American Society of Breast Surgeons Foundation has been established to support initiatives in the research and development of advanced breast disease treatments and technologies in order to improve the standards for superior patient care and education, by funding the following:

  • A state-of-the-art patient-access website for educational resources on breast disease awareness
  • The development of professional educational materials for community outreach education
  • Awards for outstanding breast disease research
  • The development of multilingual patient educational brochures on breast disease diagnosis and treatment technologies
  • Special lectures on advanced breast cancer disease treatment technologies

Board of Directors

Richard E. Fine, MD, FACS Chair

Richard E. Fine, MD is director of Advanced Breast Care of Marietta, Georgia. He is a leader in the diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases and has extensive experience with new and innovative breast biopsy methods and devices. He is a frequent lecturer and educator regarding the use of ultrasound technology. Dr. Fine is currently the Chairman of the Board of The American Society of Breast Surgeons Foundation.

Beth A. Boyd, RN Vice Chair

Beth Boyd, RN is currently the Administrator and Clinical Director at Advanced Breast Care of Marietta, Georgia. Additionally, she is the owner of Gentle Med Solutions. Beth Boyd is the Vice Chair of the Board of The American Society of Breast Surgeons Foundation.

Arthur G. Lerner, MD, FACS Secretary/Treasurer

Arthur G. Lerner, MD, FACS, is currently the Secretary and Treasurer of The American Society of Breast Surgeons Foundation as well as the Executive Vice President of The American Society of Breast Surgeons. Dr. Lerner previously served as the surgical director, and an attending surgeon, at the Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center in White Plains, NY. He is also a past president of the Society.

Beth B. DuPree, MD, FACS Member of the Board

Dr. Beth B. DuPree, MD, FACS is the Medical Director of the Breast Health Program at Holy Redeemer Health System (a University of Pennsylvania affiliate) and author of "The Healing Consciousness: A Doctor's Journey to Healing." Dr. DuPree is currently the chair of The American Society of Breast Surgeons Board of Advocates and serves on the Board of The Foundation.

Margaret Eckenroad Member of the Board

Margaret Eckenroad is currently the Vice President of Women's Health at Hologic. Ms. Eckenroad serves on the Board of Directors of The American Society of Breast Surgeons Foundation.
