Start a Facebook Fundraiser, and Help a Breast Cancer Survivor

Are you on Facebook? Hosting a fundraiser on Facebook is easy, and it is a great way for you to help raise money to support breast cancer survivors. You can make a difference. If you do decide to host one, we hope you also let us know, so we can cheer you on and recognize your efforts!

Here are some step-by-step instructions, as well as some suggested content and tips to help you:

  1. Go to https://www.facebook.com/fundraisers?create&source=help_center_how_to_create_fundraiser.

  2. The page will ask “who are you raising money for?” Select “Nonprofit” and search for “American Society of Breast Surgeons Foundation Inc.”

  3. Click on “American Society of Breast Surgeons Foundation Inc.”

  4. A window will pop up, confirming that you are raising money for the American Society of Breast Surgeons Foundation Inc.

    1. In this window, you’ll be asked “how much money do you want to raise?” Don’t be afraid to suggest a larger amount. For your reference, $200 will cover expenses for a breast cancer survivor to attend one of our support events, $400 will cover expenses for the breast cancer survivor and a supportive loved one/caregiver, and $5,000 will provide for a breast cancer research grant. Facebook will still award the money if the goal amount is not achieved.

    2. You’ll be asked “when should your fundraiser end?” We recommend you set a date at least 30 days or more away, so there is ample time for your friends and followers to see and respond to your request for their donations.

  5. Click “Next”

  6. Insert a title for your fundraiser. Here are a few example titles: “Help Me Raise Money for Breast Cancer Research,” “Raising Money for Breast Cancer Survivors in Need,” “Help Me Give Back,” or “Keep Lighting Your Path Breast Cancer Support Events Free”

  7. In the “Why are you raising money” field, write a brief paragraph or two about your connection to our cause and why you want to give back.

  8. Click “Next”

  9. You will be prompted to pick and upload a photo or video. We recommend using a photo of yourself looking at the camera or a brief video of you talking about why you care about this cause and why others should donate to your fundraiser.

  10. Click “Create” to launch your fundraiser!

  11. Next share and promote your fundraiser.

    1. Go to https://www.facebook.com/fundraisers/, and locate your fundraiser under “Fundraisers.”

    2. Click on “Invite” or “Share” to invite your friends and connections to donate.

    3. Keep your friends and connections informed about your progress towards your fundraising goal (ie, “only $1,000 left until we reach our goal,” or “two days left to help me,” etc).
